MUSEO DI SAN MARCO - BUY YOUR TICKETS

The museum occupies a vast area of the Dominican convent of San Marco and preserves much of its atmosphere.
Founded in 1436 and built by architect Michelozzo, the monastery played an important role in the religious and cultural life of the city as proves the story of friar Girolamo Savonarola.
The fame of the museum is mostly due to paintings by Beato Angelico, one of the greatest artists of the Renaissance, who painted many rooms of the monastery. Other paintings of Angelico, from various sources, have been collected in the 20th century, therefore, the museum offers an extraordinary documentation of the painter’s work.
Also important are the collections of the 16th century, with works by Fra Bartolomeo, and the section dedicated to artifacts from demolished buildings of the old town in the 19th century.
